Italian Pianist To Give Recital
The Italian pianist, Angelo Babini, who Is visiting New Zealand under the auspices of the Dante Alighieri Society, will give a recital in the University Hall on Thursday evening. Mr Babini studied music at Bologna, where he graduated with distinction in 1956. The same year he performed the complete piano works of Schumann in six recitals to mark the centenary of the composer’s death. Since 1963 he has been principal teacher of pianoforte at the Marcello Conservatory in Venice. He has given recitals in Italy, Austria, Belgium and Holland, and last year he did an extensive tour of South America. His recital on Thursday will be sponsored by the Christchurch branch of the Dante Alighieri Society and the University of Canter-
bury School of Music. There will be no charge for admission.
The programme is: Old Italian airs and dances (Respighi); Sonata in E major, Sonata in C minor (Scarlatti); Sonata in B minor (opus 40, No. 2) (Clementi); Eleven children’s pieces (Casella); Pictures at an exhibition (Mussorgsky).
