Plays In Final
The South Island divisional final of the British Drama League’s 1968 festival, for which an area competition was held in Christchurch last month, will be held in the Repertory Theatre on August 23 and 24. The national final will be held next month in Timaru. Six amateur dramatic groups—from Timaru, Christchurch, and the West Coast — will take part in the South Island final. They are the Group (Christchurch), with Peter Bland’s “George the Mad Ad Man”; the Elmwood' Players (Christchurch), with Brian Cooper’s “The Brain Factory” and Edward Albee’s “The Death of Bessie Smith;” the South Canterbury Catholic Dramatic Club, with “Bedtime Story,” by Sean O’Casey; the Craighead School, with Act 3 of “And So On Ad Finitum,” by the Brothers Capek; and the Wesport Players, with “The Lovely Silence," by Read Jordan.
The producers are Terry Shepherd (the Group), Alex Henderson and Brian Deavoll (Elmwood Players); and John Clarke (South Canterbury), Olive Morgan (Craighead), and Averill Frazer (Westport Players). The judge will be Mrs Nancy Rusdell, of Hgwera.
