Householder Assaulted
A resident of Essex Street, Linwood, suffered a four-inch wound on the head when he was assaulted outside his house about 7.15 p.m. yesterday. Detectives found a brick wrapped in a length of cheese-cloth nearby. The man assaulted, George William Baldwin, aged 51, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. His condition late last night was reported to be satisfactory. Mr Baldwin, a social security beneficiary, lives alone. Detective* were still inquiring into the assault late last night.
Rotary Club Officers.—The board of directors of the Rotary Club of Papanui elected at the club's annual meeting, is:—president, Mr I. T. Galloway: vice-president, Mr E. B. Dalmer: secretary, Mr W. Grant: treasurer, Mr B. M. Mclntosh: directors, Messrs R. Barnes, A. R. Gallagher, and K. F. Roper. The immediate past president is Mr L. R. Pugh.
