WHEAT FOR NORTH
Bulk Shipment Soon
The shipping of wheat in bulk to the North Island is expected to be resumed next week.
The delay in shipments since the loss of the bulk wheat ship Maranui had been caused by the need to make and install shifting boards in the coastal bulk wheat vessels, the general manager of the Wheat Board. (Mr L. C. Dunshea) said yesterday, but this seemed to be taking longer with some ships than had at first been expected. “To assist in meeting the. position until the shifting boards can be installed, two lof these vessels are loading bagged wheat,” Mr Dunshea said. “One of these, the Bay Fisher, started loading 15,000 sacks of wheat at Timaru today and the Kaimai is expected to start loading 18,000 sacks of wheat and a quantity of bran and pollard at Lyttelton on Monday. This wheat is destined for Auckland and Mount Maunganui mills.” The first of the small | coastal bulk wheat vessels should be available for loading at Dunedin on Monday. Two more vessels would be i available for loading in the South Island towards the end I of July and a fourth by August 10. I “As soon as these vessels' are available they will be ! loaded and dispatched and j maintained on a continuous | turn-round with bulk wheat,” said Mr Dunsea.
