P.M. Dismisses Election Call

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 13.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today dismissed a call by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) for the Government to “go to the country.” After this morning’s meeting of the Cabinet Mr Holyoake said: “I was a leader of an opposition myself once and it is not unusual for leaders of oppositions to call for early elections. “I felt that when I exercised this prerogative when I was a leader of an opposition I did it with much greater justification and reason than is the case at present,” he said.
