N.Z. To Attend Talks On Japanese Expo
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 13.
New Zealand will send a three-member delegation to a conference later this month in Kyoto, Japan, for the detailed planning and preparations for Expo 70 at Osaka.
The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) said the conference had been called by the Japanese Government and would be attended by commissioners-general from participating countries or their representatives, and by observers from countries which had been invited to take part in the exposition but which had not yet decided to do so. The head of the New Zealand delegation will be Mr J. L. Fenaughty, minister (commercial) in the New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo, who in recent months has been responsible in Japan for much of the detailed preparatory work for New Zealand’s entry He will be assisted by Mr J. L. Newham, the architect for the pavilion, and Mr D. L. Hard, the finance controller, seconded from the Treasury.
Mr Marshall said the conference would be held from May 27 to May 30 in the new international conference hall at Kyoto, near Osaka.
It would deal with a wide range of subjects, including progress on the exposition
site and amenities, technical matters such as participation contracts, commercial activities, customs duties and taxation, a programme of “national days,” and details of administration.
