Thefts From Wahine

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 13.

Persons who removed a ship’s compass, an electric clock, and a lounge chair from the wrecked Wahine yesterday could be prosecuted, a police official said today. The police recovered the property soon after its removal. The official said it had been removed on the mistaken assumption that because the wreck would not be salvaged it belonged to no-one. He said that the ship was still private property and the looting of fittings was regarded as theft.
