PROPELLER FOUND
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, May 13.
Navy divers have found the starboard propeller and supporting bracket from the Wahine, which had been missing since the ship sank in Wellington Harbour on April 10. The find was made last week, but was not disclosed until today. The two parts were found on Barrett’s Reef, but Navy officials in Auckland said they could not give the exact location because this would be given as evidence at the inquiry into the disaster. No mention was made of a missing section of the shaft It is believed that part of a propeller blade found on the seabed near the reef by a Wellington skin-diver earlier this month was not from the Wahine.
the six-man Navy diving team which has been working round the Wahine for nearly a month, is now making an underwater photographic survey of the ship.
