Two Fast Swims

New Zealand’s chances of being adequately represented in swimming events at the Olympic Games this year were boosted by two excellent performances by Misses G. J. (Stirling and S. A. Whittleston in the Moana Pool, Dunedin, last evening. Miss Stirling equalled the Olympic target tire of Imin 9.ssec for the 110 yards backstroke, and Mi’s Whittleston was only o.3sec from her 220 (yards butterfly target of 2min (33sec. Both times were national senior records.

Three girls have now reached the Olympic targets, and the chairman of the national selection panel (Mr A. J. Donaldson), indicated last evening that Miss Whittleston’s time would make her a firm candidate.
