GOLD MEDALLIST KNOCKED OUT

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND. Almost without exception, the visitors came and conquered at the Olympic Games boxing trials in Auckland last evening. Only E. Wuulf of the local men advanced his prospects of selection.

The flve-man Fijian team scored four victories, only its light heavy-weight, Salusalu, being beaten. He was knocked out by Wuulf. A big Samoan, Alt Fa’Amu, of Wellington, ended the Olympic hopes of the Commonwealth heavy-weight champion, W. Kini, with a

long right that dropped Kini in the second round of their fight.

Kini got back on his feet but the referee, Mr G. R. Lyall, stopped the fight. The brilliant Fijian bantamweight, Atta Singh, was heavier, taller, older, and much better than R. Barber (Masterton), and won by a technical knock-out in the first round.

The New Zealand light middle-weight champion, K. Milford, sought an early knock-out in his welter-weight contest against the Fijian, Tunoa, and ended up on the floor.

In the first round, Milford caught a bard volley from the tall Tunoa. He went down for a count, moments later was down again, and the referee stopped the bout. F. Etuati, the New Zealand middle-weight champion, gave the Fijians their fourth win when he was disqualified for hitting Korovoau while the Fijian was on the floor.
