TRAIN RIDE TO CASS

To mark the final run of the only two C-class steam locomotives remaining in New Zealand, an excursion to Cass on Saturday has been arranged by a member of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Railways and Locomotives Association (Mr C. R Julian). The locomotives, Nos C 864 and C 847, will pull five or more wooden carriages. Fiftythree enthusiasts are expected from the North Island, from Timaru and from the West Coast. The train will leave Christchurch at 8 a.m. and re turn at 5 p.m. There will be stops on the way to enable passengers to take photographs. Proceeds from the excursion will be given to the Ferrymead railway and tramway fund.
