C.O.R.S.O. Response To Unemployment

“C.0.R.5.0. has probably I made a greater response to New Zealand’s present unem-: ployment problem than any: other non-Govemment organisation,” Mr R. H. French, | district organiser for C.0.R.5.0., said in reply to a statement by Mr G. M. Edmonds,! the secretary of the Canterbury Organisation for the Unemployed, in “The Press” on Friday. “Some months ago it was decided to establish a Hunger Trail throughout New Zealand with a target of $820,000, which would enable us to offset the impact of devaluation upon our effective giving. But, wishing to do our part' in the present economic con-1 ditions at home, it was decided that $500,000 of this! amount would be spent in New Zealand. "We will use this money to I buy wool, blankets, milk powx, der, food, and agricultural machinery, and in bringing young people to our country for technical training which they will reinvest in needy situations back home,” he said. It was interesting to note that the very materials C.0.R.S.O. needed were to be found in industries which were at present depressed, he said. “While we get no exchange concessions, our cheap—and often free—shipping to proven relief organisations makes C.0.R.5.0. New Zealand's most economical and efficient distributing agent overseas.

'We send New Zealand goods : to countries which might well become important future markets, and in so doing we pioneer where commercial : organisations cannot afford to i go,” said Mr French. “We sympathise with Mr I Edmonds and appreciate the aims of his organisation. We look forward to doing our share towards hastening the day when those who are at present unemployed will be in a position to make a thankoffering to C.0.R.5.0,, which will still be hard at work among our needy neighbours.”
