Design Contest

A world-renowned design authority. Professor Shinji Koike, of Kyushu University. Japan, will join the judging panel of the 1968 Rothman's Industrial Design Awards. These 12 annual awards have been established to stimulate interest and encourage improvement in the design, style and presentation of New Zealand manufactured goods, particularly those with export potential. As a result of written requests, more than 3000 official entry forms have been distributed.

Professor Koike is a former professor of industrial design at Chiba University, and is an adviser to the Japanese Government Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

He is a Japanese representative to the international council of Societies of Industrial Design and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London.

The other four judges of the panel which will judge the contest in November are Mr J. Brooke, director of the D.S.I.R. in Auckland, Mr J. Coe, head of the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design, Professor Patricia Coleman, dean of the Home Science faculty at the University of Otago, and Mr K. L. Smith, a director of Rothmans (New Zealand), Ltd.

Entries will close on July 18.

Entry forms are available from the organisers in Auckland, manufacturers’ associations, the New Zealand Industrial Design Council or the Department of Industries and Commerce, Wellington.
