RISE IN WAGES
Wage increases of 80c a week for all classifications of men workers, 60c for women workers, and 50c for youths and girls, are granted in a new award covering the Northern, Wellington, and Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Unions.
The new wage rates, arrived at in conciliation, are retrospective to February 27. Minimum wages for men now range from $31.04 a week for group four workers up to 534.37 for group one workers, which include charge operators and leading hands. For women, the new minimum wage rate is $22.47 a week, with women leading hands receiving 52.18 a week extra.
Minimum rates for youths are now 512.95 a week for those under 17 rising to $22.23 for those from 19 to 20. Wages for girls in the same age groups range from $12.95 to $18.69. Overtime for all workers is at the rate of time and a half for the first three hours and double time after that.
