Shock Tennis Win To N.Z.
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. A New Zealand youngster, J. Simpson, scored a shock win over Australia’s thirdranked junior, P. Doener, in their Australian boys’ singles match on Tuesday. Simpson, by far the underdog, played a fine fighting game. When he lost the first set 4-6 the match looked a formality for Doener,. but the New Zealand lad tightened his game and took the next two sets, and the match, 4-6, 64, 6-3. Another New Zealander, D. Parun, beat N. Higgins (South Australia) easily, but Parun’s fellow Linton Cup player, R. Rae, went down to D. Wright (Victoria). Results: Parun beat Higgins 6-3, 64; Simpson beat Doener, 4-6, 64, 6-3; Rae lost to Wright 11-9, 4-6, 6-0.
