Sharp Rise In San Francisco

YN.Z.P. A.-Itduter—Copyright) SAN FRANSISCO, Oct. 11. San Francisco was in the throes of a venereal disease epidemic affecting at least 6 per cent of Its sexually active population, city health authorities said.

Dr David Sachs, chairman of the San Francisco Medical Society’s public health committee, said the toll was increasing sharply among young people.

“Not just among hippies, but among nice, clean high school kids—the kids who might well be our own. They face pain and risk sterility,” he said.

Dr Ellis Sox, the city’s health director, said he was asking the municipal authorities.for an emergency appropriation of $71,000 to improve facilities in San Francisco's venereal disease clinic.
