Hotels ‘Too Dull’
“The community should take advantage of this oportunity which the Government has provided to extend the facilities for our overseas guests,” said the vice-presid-ent of the South Island Publicity Association (Mr E. T Beaven), referring yesterday to the liquor. hours referendum.
“The South Island Publicity Association considers that all voters should take this opportunity of clearly expressing to the Government their wishes in this matter, and it is essential that everyone should vote.” It was the opinion of S.I.P.A. that hotel life in NeuZealand was too dull and that steps should be taken to improve it. “There is a need to provide facilities and services which many overseas tourists are used to," he said. “There is a definite need to encourage upgrading of existing cocktail bar facilities, to revise the licensing laws, and to provide better lighting. The provision of entertainment and music should be undertaken. , “This country must be the last bastion of six o’clock closing in the Commonwealth,” said Mr Beaven.
