“Flashlight” the official organ of the New Zealand Federated Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant and Related Trades Employees’ Industrial Association of Workers, in its latest issue says: “Vote for 6 o’clock closing and preserve your present working conditions.

“Your new award Is written round 6 o’clock closing.” The article also says (to members): “Do you want to preserve your present working conditions?

“If so. be consistent and in accordance with resolutions carried at meetings throughout the country vote for 6 p.m. closing." When the secretary of the Canterbury Hotel Workers’ Union (Mr L. N. Short) was questioned about this article in “Flashlight” he said:

“No directive whatsoever has been issued to our members on how to vote."
