Arrests After Burglaries

In spite of the incidence of burglaries in Christchurch in recent weeks, detectives assigned to deal especially with such crimes had since the beginning of the month accounted for about 70 burglaries or other serious crimes. Detective Superintendent F. A. Gordon said yesterday. “These offences extend over a greater period than that between September 1 and September 20, of course, and I don’t intend to suggest that they are all recent, but in the last fortnight a lot of crimes

have been accounted for,” he said.

As well as arrests on charges of burglary, theft, and unlawful taking of motorvehicles, two arrests on rape charges had been made in the last fortnight
