More Births, Marriages

The number of births and marriages in Christchurch increased and the number of deaths decreased in the first half of this year compared with the first six months of 1966, said the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Mr F. G. Elsmore).

Totals at 4 p.m. on Friday with last year’s figures in parenthesis, were: Births 2874 (2733), deaths 1240 (1284), marriage notices issued 1249 (1246). The number of marriages by the registrar was 243 compared with 240. Figures for the month, with those of last June in parenthesis, are: Births 451 (434); deaths 245 (249); marriage notices 126 (126); marriages by the registrar 54 (34).

Top Dairy Men.—Sir Andrew Linton was re-elected as chairman of the Dairy Board at the board's annual meeting after the Dominion dairy conference. Mr F. L. Onion was re-elected deputy chairman. Sir Andrew Linton has been chairman of the board since 1956.
