Decimal Maids

(N.Z. Press Association)

NAPIER, July 3.

The Hawke’s ”ay and Gisborne Trustee Savings Bank has brought three experienced Australian girl bank officers to the district to assist with the change to decimal currency. It is believed to be the only bank in New Zealand to take this step. For the next two weeks the girls will assist staff and customers alike at the bank’s Napier, Hastings and Gisborne branches.

Faced with employing additional staff for the change, the bank decided to bring over experienced Australians rather than take on untrained girls.
