SCOUTS ATTEND CHURCH PARADE

More than 1000 Boy Scouts and Cubs in the Canterbury area attended their annual church parades in Christchurch yesterday.

Between 700 and 800 scouts and cubs, with relatives and friends, went to the service in Christchurch Cathedral while about 500, with Girl Guides and Brownies, held their service in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Barbadoes street.

The service in the Christchurch Cathedral was conducted by the Scout chaplain (the Rev. J. S. Vincent) and the sermon was preached by the Director of Christian Education for the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand (the Rev. D, White). The lesson was read by the district commissioner for the Rimu district (Mr R. Richmond). Mr A. Stark, the area

commissioner, renewed the Scout promise, Miss C. Heyward, the assistant commissioner, renewed the cub promise, and Mr P. Henwood recited the Scout law.

Venturer scouts provided the colour party which carried the New Zealand flag to the chancel steps while scouts took the scout flag. Among the worshippers was the activities commissioner from the scout national headquarters (Mr F. J. Moselen).
