Bar Hours

Sir,—lt appears to me that the Government, in an endeavour to persuade the women voters to accept 10 p.m.

closing, is offering an evening meal break, but there is no mention at what hour. As it is, shop assistants and others who finish work at 5.30 p.m. have very little time to purchase and consume liquor. To obviate this “bar swill,” would not 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. or, better still, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., be an ideal hour for a meal break? In New South Wales the evening meal break has now been abolished. If the answer to 10 p.m. closing is in the affirmative will it be necessary subsequently to have another referendum to get rid of the evening meal break?—Yours, etc., GRASP THIS NETTLE. May 27, 196?.

Sir, —Only those who drink should have a vote on what time they should drink. Why should drones and parasites in Christchurch who have never done any productive work have a say in what time a West Cdast miner should drink?—Yours, etc., FAR BACK DAN. May 27, 1967.
