Employment

Sir,—l trust that our politicians are aware of the staff reductions in various industries in consequence of the economic squeeze, and will legislate to protect the family man first The first to go should be the hundreds of superannuitants holding down good jobs; next all men who qualify for the age benefit and married women should be dismissed before married men with families. I, for one, have been dismissed, and my position given to a man well overdue for the pension. I am sure the Government of the day could well win back some of its lost prestige by acting swiftly in the direction indicated.—Yours, etc., P. L. BASHFORD. Kaiapoi, May 27, 1967.
