FIRE RAZES BACH

Inquiries By Police

Christchurch detectives are investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed a bach at 41 Heyders road, Spencerville, last evening. The bach, a wooden building about 20ft by 14ft and set among pine trees with another smaller building to the rear, belonged to Mr and Mrs J. A. Martin, of 297 Avonhead road.

Mr G. E. Jackson said that when he first saw the bach alight it was burning furiously, and flames were leaping above the roof. “The brigade did a good job in putting it out. They had only the water in their tanks,” he said. No other property was damaged by the fire. One machine from St Albans and one from the Headquarters station answered the call, which was received at 7.45 p.m.
