Hoarding Petrol
Persons hoarding petrol because of the price increase may be breaking the law. Petrol was classed as dangerous goods and the rules for its storage were extremely strict, a Fire Brigade spokesman said. The Dangerous Goods Act says that no more than 10 gallons of petrol for private use may be stored unless it is in substantial containers of metal or approved materials so securely closed that under normal storage conditions neither liquid nor vapour can escape. Petrol cannot be stored in a dwelling or an outhouse attached to a dwelling. If petrol is stored then adequate precautions have to be taken against fire or explosion. i
