UNIVERSITY HALLS
Committee’s Study
Halls at residence—present, planned and proposed—at the University of Canterbury will be studied today by a subcommittee of the Parliamentary Public Expenditure Committee. The members are:—Messrs J. Mathison (Opposition, Avon), H. V. Donald (Government, Wairarapa), K. R. Harrison (Govt, Hawke’s Bay), and B. P, Mac Donnell (Opp., Dunedin Central), No specific programme has been arranged, but the subcommittee’s inquiry will cover the present Rolleston House and Helen Connon Hall near the central university site; Christchurch College, now in new buildings at Ham; the Anglican women’s hall, Rochester (Roman Catholic), Rutherford (PresbyterianMethodist), and Baptist halls being planned by the churches for Ham; and the university’s own plans for men’s and women’s halls and a Colombo Plan hall at Ham. The same sub-committee will examine residential hall needs at Lincoln College on May 2.
