Golf With One Club

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON. The author of a technical paper on golf, published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, has been granted a patent for a single club to be used throughout the game, the “New York Times” news service reported. The scientifically • designed club has a handle that is adjustable for length, from putter to driver, and a head that is adjustable to get the proper loft. The inventor is Mr Albert J. Williams, aged 63, of Philadelphia, scientific advisor to the Leeds and Northrup Company, manufacturer of measuring instruments. In 1962 Mr Williams appealed to the United States Golf Association to amend its rules to permit play with a single adjustable club, but this was denied.
