Sir, —“Rob Roy” must have been thinking of a number and doubling it when he quoted death figures in China and the Soviet Union. He should be able to document his figures. Han Suyin in her two books, “The Crippled Three” and “The Mortal Flower,” is just one reference that should be read. In these books historical facts are recorded. Chiang Kai-shek returned from being trained in Moscow to trying to exterminate the Communists instead of fighting Japan. There are many other books that tell the same thing. Can the correspondent substantiate his figures? He is right in one figure: 23,000,000 who lost their lives in the U.S.S.R. between 1938 and 1953. This was the period of the Second World War, when this number of Russians were exterminated, not by Stalin, but by the Nazi invaders. The fight is always against fascism.—Yours, etc., P. J. A December 20, 1966 .
