“Mona Vale”

Sir,—Certainly “Mona Vale” is a beautiful and charming home, but not suitable for any type of park. The real attraction is the river, the weir, and the neighbouring properties. There are only about 10 large trees of any impact. The glasshouses and homestead are of no value, historically or otherwise. Already we have the Deans’s homestead and Elizabeth House. Other parts of the attractive grounds would have to be completely remodelled. Surely the councils could all

improve their present parks and river banks, which in many cases are eyesores, rather than undertake this venture which few people will be able to enjoy. Parking would be an impossibility. Large open areas and playgrounds would be of much greater value to the community.—Yours, etc., PRACTICAL. December 18, 1966.
