YACHTS RETURN

Weather Rough Two yachts from Lyttelton, the Sabrina (R. Berry), a launch recently modified as a motor-sailer, and the Bondi (R. Chisnail) a keeler, turned back for Lyttelton yesterday oft Waimairi Beach because of rough, north-west weather. The yachts left Lyttelton at 3 p.m. bound for Picton. The yachts were to be left there for the Christmas-New Year holidays, the crews returning by train to Christchurch to await the holidays. Mr Berry said that some of those on board had been seasick. There was no pleasure, and some discomfort, in tbe trip so it had been decided to put about. A watch between yachts and shore had been arranged with the Canterbury Radio-Tele-phone Club. The president (Mr N. F. Pipe) had been in touch with the yachts from Waimairi Beach when it was agreed that they turn back, Mr Berry said. It was possible that both yachts, with experienced crews, would sail early this morning if the dry southerly that was forecast eventuated. The Wairiki (A. K. Archer), which left Lyttelton at 11 p.m. on Thursday night, was off Kaikoura last evening.
