SHOT FIRED INTO HOUSE
Police scouring the neighbourhood on Thursday evening after a 303 rifle bullet had been fired into a house in Shirley, questioned a man about 1000 yards away.
The police later took a .303 rifle from the man’s home, more than two miles from the house, but are not, convinced that he fired the shot.
The bullet crashed through the bedroom wall of the house at 10 Aldersley street Shir-
ley. Mrs Kay Haines, who lives with her mother, Mrs P. Ballantine, had just put her two boys aged 3} and 5 to bed when the bullet entered the house, about 6.45 p.m. The bullet went through the interior bedroom wall and embedded in a wall of the bathroom. Nobody was hurt The police have no evidence that the rifle was fired deliberately at the house, and detectives have not been put on the case. About two hours after the shot the police chased a man after a police car had been damaged about 1000 yards from the house in Aldersley street. The police later took possession of a rifle from a house in Chester street. The police have the bullet that was fired into the Aldersley street house.
