ONLY 6FT ON BAR
(N.Z. Press Association) WESTPORT, Dec. 9. The depth on the Westport bar at low water yesterday was six feet, the poorest for some time. It forced the collier Kaitangata to be diverted to Greymouth. Coal will be railed from Westport. The Harbourmaster (Captain L. H. Davies) expects a run in the river to scour the bar sufficiently to make it possible for “K” boats to come in next week. If conditions do not improve the position could be serious for the Guardian Cement Company. The Kaitoa is due next week with about 1450 tons of Australian gypsum, a necessary ingredient for cement production.
