FAIRLIE SUCCESSFUL SAME PLAYER, SAME RESULT
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY. B. E. Fairlie, of Auckland, beat the same opponent twice to reach the junior final and the intermediate quarter-finals in the New South Wales tennis championships at Sydney yesterday.
Fairlie beat J. Alexander, 6-4, 7-5, in the junior event in the morning. Later, he beat Alexander, 6-3, 6-2, in the intermediate.
halves of the draw Parun and Fairlie could not meet before the finals. Parun yesterday beat W. Lloyd, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, and the fourth seed, K. Coombes, 6-1, ,6-0. Improved In Second Fairlie, troubled by a stiff wind, was extended in his first match against Alexander. But there was no mistaking the New Zealander’s superiority in the second match which lasted less than half an hour. Parun, after a hard battle with Lloyd, had a surprisingly easy win over Coombes. The Australian was troubled by a sore arm and put up only token opposition. Parun’s easy win was heartening for Fairlie, as he will play Coombes in the junior final.
