Seaquarium Stock
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, Nov. 7. More stock has been obtained for the new seaquarium being established at Mount Maunganui. Three dolphins caught near Mayor Island and a 4001 b sea leopard are now inhabitants of different pools at the Marineland.
Three seals are being sent from Kaikoura.
The seaquarium has been built on the blowhole rock at Ocean Beach at Mount Maunganui by a private company. A viewing chamber below water level has been constructed between the large pools. The company aims to provide more dolphins,- sharks and other subtropical fish. The manager, Mr R. Piggales, said that Ringer, the first dolphin caught, was now feeding from the hand of one of the attendants.
The dolphins were each eating 151 b of fish a day and the company was establishing a freezing chamber to hold 15 tons—a two-month reserve supply. The marineland will be open to the public on November 12.
