ORIENTAL PARADE
£500,000 Motor Hotel By 1968 "The Press’’ Special Service WELLINGTON, Nov. 7. The 10-storey motor hotel in Oriental parade, next to the Wellington Central Fire Station, is expected to be completed by the end of 1968. The 80-unit, 160-bed building will cost about £500,000. The Fletcher Trust and Investment Company has bought land from Oriental parade through to Roxburgh street. It has demolished two old houses fronting Roxburgh street and two on the ridge overlooking Oriental parade. The lease of the car sales firm on Oriental parade expires on November 21. A day later a bulldozer will start cutting down the ridge to the level of Roxburgh street. Site construction is expected to be well under way by Christmas. The motor hotel, unlicensed at least initially, will be built well back from Oriental parade, with a good view of the docks and Tinakori hill. Guests will drive in from Oriental parade and park their cars at the rear, on the Roxburgh street side.
