DOUBLES ARE POPULAR

T.A.B. patrons are getting more “doubleminded” each year. Doubles accounted for 54.8 per cent of off-course investments for the year ended July 31. In the 1962-63 season doubles made up 51 per cent of the total betting. In the 1965-66 season doubles betting amounted to £20,456,514 compared with £16.877,414 in win-and-place betting. Galloping attracts a bigger percentage of doubles betting

than trotting—s 6.3 per cent as against 50.4 per cent. Last season the turn-over i ' doubles on galloping meetings was £15,597,709, compared with £14,603,349 in 196465 and £11,686,883 in 1962-63. The doubles turn-over on trotting meetings was £4,858,805 compared with £4,832,543 a year earlier, and £3.338,670 in 1962-63. In the 1965-66 season 404 meetings were held, 271 for racing and 133 for trotting. The average value of each ticket sold to T.A.B. patrons was 12s Id.
