RACING T.A.B. Records But Clubs Will Get Less

It has been a year of records for the Totalisator Agency Board. One of the most notable of them was a record off-course turn-over of £37,333,928 for the year ended July 31.

But because it cost the board a record figure of £2,208,300 to achieve its big turn-over the surplus of £1,006,242 for distribution to clubs has decreased by £103,447.

Expenditure for the year was £227,100 higher than last year and has risen by £425,500 in two years.

Off-course investments were up by 2.9 per cent on the previous year, says the sixteenth annual report of the board.

Apart from the record offcourse turn-over for the year five off-course betting records were established. Trentham Popular They were:— For one club, £348,407: Wellington Racing Club, January 22, 1966. For one day at a trotting meeting, £211,675: New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, November 9, 1965. For one night at a trotting meeting, £193,359: Auckland Trotting Club, December 28, 1965. For one double, £202,084: Wellington Racing Club. January 22, 1966. For a low percentage of offcourse scratchings, 1.93 per cent. On-course turn-overs on racing and trotting meetings declined by £157,358 for the year, but off-course investments rose by £l,os7,o63—increases for galloping easily offsetting a decrease of £21,393 on trotting.

Combined turn-overs on racing and trotting amounted to £62,882,862—an increase of £1,043,816 or 2.35 per cent for

galloping: a decrease of £143,504 or 0.82 per cent for trotting. (Figures for the previous year included a successful Inter-Dominion trotting meeting in Dunedin.) Major Chibs i The Auckland Racing Club will this year receive £85,073, a decrease of £BOl2 on last year’s £93,085. The Wellington Racing Club’s share of the pool is £73,496—a decrease of £4350. The Canterbury Jockey Club will receive £34,846, which is down £7508 on last year’s total of £42,354. The Auckland Trotting Club, with £39,962, gets the third highest dividend from the pool, and the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club runs the Canterbury Jockey Club close for fourth. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s share is £34,592, which is £2373 below the previous year.
