A WATER BABY
(X Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON. Five-year-old Gillian Thomas elimbed out of a swimming pool on Sunday and said: “I want to swim the English Channel.” She had just astonished experts by surging through 30 lengths of the pool almost without losing breath, the “Daily Express” reported. After only five months “in the swim” she can swim a mile and a half using the backstroke, breaststroke, the crawl and butterfly. And on Sunday she
qualified for her bronze survival test—diving from a height of 6ft, swimming 50 yards in pyjamas, treading water for three minutes, undressing in the water, swimming a quarter of a mile, and swimming underwater for five yards.
Just to prove it was all in the day's work, Gillian swam another mile and a half.
Her instructor, Mr G. Britton, said: “Absolutely amazing, that’s what she is. Goodness knows what she will achieve if she keeps this up.”
