Pirate Radio
Sir, —Normally a law-abid-ing citizen, I find one strong reason for hoping that a pirate radio operates near New Zealand. In Australia recently I found that at least six religious bodies such as the Billy Graham organisation have been buying time on numerous radio stations to run daily or weekly broadcasts. Not long ago a wellestablished New Zealand church considered applying for broadcasting time. Although I am an Anglican, I wrote to you expressing the hope that they would succeed and asking if time for such broadcasts could be bought here and, if not, why not. The reply stated that no time can be bought for religious broadcasts, but no reason was given. Surely in a free country, broadcasts by reputable Bible believers must be preferable to advertisements for patent medicines and deodorants or descriptions of horse races and dividends paid. A free radio is needed.—Yours, pfc HOPING. September 8, 1966.
