Dr. Verwoerd
Sir, —The reaction to the death of Dr. Verwoerd of leading figures round the world is interesting. Dr. Verwoerd was responsible for the brutal murder of some 70 people in Sharpville, which he brushed aside as an unfortunate incident. Thousands of people have suffered in prisons under Nazi-style tyranny and sadism of the worst kind. Millions of coloured people have for years had to bear the degrading, spirit-killing apartheid policy. This man, master of psychology and doctor of philosophy, puts our Western philosophy and civilisation on a par with the most primitive savage. Yours, etc., M. September 11, 1966.
