Moto-Cross Series On New Basis
An international moto-cross series would he held in New Zealand next season and one of the meetings would definitely be held in Christchurch, the South Island publicity officer of the New Zealand Auto Cycle Union (Mr J. Fraser) said yesterday.
Invitations would be sent to top international riders and , the meetings would be similar to those run in the last two motor-cvcle racing seasons, he said. However, the administration would be completely changed. The previous two international series were organised entirely by Moto-Cross Enternrises. headed by the Australian international. A T Gibbes. now living in Palmerston North. This year Gibbes would again use his overseas contacts and arrange for the riders tn come to New j Zealand but neither he, nor Moto-Cross Enterprises, would I organise the meetings. Mr Fraser said. Each organisation control-I ling a meeting would put up a guarantee of several hundred pounds to have the internationals and any profit or loss it made after this had been taken into account would be its own responsibility, he said. An association, known officially as International MotoCross. Christchurch, was formed this week by rep re-, sentatives of the six motor-! cycle clubs in Christchurch ! Canterbun’. Tai Tapu. Corsair. Kaiapoi. Pioneer, and New Brighton. Mr J. Brown (Kaiapoi) was elected president Mr Fraser secretary, and Mr C. A. Treneary treasurer.
The association replaced the organising committee which ran the internationals in Christchurch for the last two years. At its inaugural meeting it agreed to meet the guarantee and set a tentative date of December 11 for the Christchurch meeting. The venue will be discussed on August 17.
