PLAYER BANNED
Ordered To Apologise (N.Z. Press Assn.r-Copvright) SYDNEY. Britain’s Rugby League scrum-half, T. Bishop, was suspended yesterday until he makes a written apology to the New South Wales Rugby League. The suspension applies only to matches in New South Wales. Bishop appeared before the New South Wales League judiciary committee, charged with having struck a linesman, Mr R. Morris. The British winger. W. Burgess, also appeared before the judiciary and was given a caution on a charge of misconduct. The hearings resulted from Tuesday’s match against the Sydney club, Balmain. During the game, Mr Morris had ruled that Burgess had gone into touch before scoring a try that would have won the game for Britain. Mr Morris told reporters before yesterday’s hearing that Burgess had jostled him and Bishop had hit him across the face as the players were leaving the field at the end of the game. The British team has only one more match in New South Wales —against Monaco at Cooma on Sunday—before leaving for New Zealand the next day. The ban will not preclude Bishop from playing in New Zealand.
