Longest Service In Life-Saving Assn.

The longest - serving member of the Canterbury Surf Life-Saving Association, Mr L. J. Tointon, was last evening elected a life member to the association. Mr Tointon, the publicity officer for both the Canterbury and New Zealand associations, has served on the Canterbury association since 1945, when he was transferred to Christchurch. Prominent in the Sumner club for the last 21 years, Mr Tointon also served on the New Zealand association council and in his competitive career, starting in 1937. has gained various Royal Life-saving Society and surf awards. Mr B. B. Blackmore, a retiring vice-president of the association, was granted the service award blazer. Mr Blackmore was responsible for forming the Walmairi club 19 years ago and has served on the Canterbury association for 18 years. Other service awards were made to Messrs G. Chammen, S. D.
