PRIVATE TV STATION
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 27. A privately-owned commercial television station is planned for Auckland.
The solicitors for the group behind the venture, McElroy, Duncan and Preddle, in a statement today said it was believed the problems involved in the £lOO,OOO project could be solved. The statement said that the possibility of establishing the station had been investigated by principals of the group for about two years. “The principals of the group are New Zealanders with considerable experience in commercial television, advertising and marketing and are currently employed in executive positions in these fields,” it said. The statement said that the project would be under New Zealand ownership and that the principals intended to comply with both New Zealand and international law and hoped to provide a community service of a high quality.
The advertising rates would be lower than those of the N.Z.B.C. and the programme format will be quite different. The solicitors said that they were not authorised to make public any further plans at this stage.
