KENDALL SHINES
Ready For Games B. Kendall, the New Zealand amateur feather-weight champion and Empire Games representative, outboxed the Southland light-weight champion, E. Templeton, to take a unanimous points decision in his final ring appearance before going to Jamaica. Templeton had the longer reach and enough pluck and ability to give Kendall a hard work-out. Kendall’s punching was much better co-ordinated, and he hit harder as well as scoring more clean punches. Kendall wasted no time moving into attack and he will have to be ready to do the same in Jamaica. He won a good bout, was given an ovation and later was presented with a gold wrist-watch by the president (Mr E. G. Pocock) from the Canterbury Boxing Association to mark his selection for the Empire Games team. Junior Championships The finals of the Canterbury junior championships produced some good clean boxing. The referee was Mr M. V. Drury, and judges, Messrs S. C. Ashton, D. Simson and C. Wellman. Results: Under 3st 51b.—K. Pyne (Crichton Cobbers) beat G. Rickeraby (Crichton Cobbers) on points. Under sst 101 b.—G. Grieve (Crichton Cobbers) beat C. Morris (Fldows Gym), on points. Feather-weight.—D. Hewison (Crichton Cobbers) beat G. Jamieson (Papanul Sports Club), on points.
