SQUASH TITLES

The top-seeded pair, Mrs R. Woodhead and Miss C. Swift, qualified for the final of the women’s title when the Christchurch closed squash rackets championships were continued last evening. Finalists have now been found in all events. J. S. Crosbie and N. B. Ullrich, seeded first and third, will contest the B grade championship, and R. Taylor, a visitor from England, will meet a countryman, N. Gray, in the C grade. Mrs Woodhead and Miss Swift had no difficulty justifying their seedings. Mrs Woodhead beat Mrs P. Leopold, 9-3, 9-0, 7-9, 9-6, and displayed a greater range of shots. In the first two games her good front court shots, wellplaced drives, and fine use of the walls, gave her complete control. When Mrs Leopold greatly improved her length in the third game, she offered much sterner opposition, but although the final game went to 9-6, there was never really much doubt of the ultimate result. Miss L. Swift beat Mlsa J. Webb, 9-2, 9-0. 9-2. She placed her aerve particularly weU and her length across court wae consistently good, giving her almost complete control of court position. Other results were: B Grade.—Semi-final: N. », Ullrich beat E. R. Morris, 9-7, 9-2, 2-9. 5-9. 9-3. C Grade.—Semi-finals: R. Taylor beat D. A. Hearn, 5-9, 9-5, 1-9, 9-2, 10-9; N. Gray beat N. G. Dellaca. 9-3, 9-0, 9-1.
