SUEZ CANAL DAMAGED

Ship Goes Aground (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PORT SAID, June 20. The 27,907-ton Italian luxury liner Galileo Galilei on its way to Australia, went aground on the banks of the Suez Canal yesterday, tearing a hole 18 feet deep and 90 feet wide into the canal side highway. Only minor bruises were reported among the 1000 passengers.

Tugs freed the ship and she headed for Suez city for an examination before resuming her journey to Australia. The captain blamed the accident on an abrupt electrical failure in the steering gear.
