Johnson On Use Of Air
(N Z.P.A Reuter —Copi/riflht) WASHINGTON, June 20. Speculation filled Washington yesterday that President Johnson might order an intensification of the air raids on North Vietnam and increase United States forces In the south unless Hanoi agreed to an honourable peace. At a press conference on Saturday Mr Johnson, while emphasising limited United States objectives in the war, said the national interest required that "we persist in our present policy of resisting Communist aggression.” “That policy is to bring to bear the ground, naval, and air strength required to achieve our objective,” he said. “I must observe that this does not mean that we shall not increase our forces, or our operations.”
