HOSPITALITY FOR CREW
More Offers Than Men About 70 members of the crew of the Royal yacht Britannia will be guests of Canterbury families this weekend. “We could have easily placed two or three times that number,” said the Canterbury Public Relations Officer (Mr C. N. Todd) last evening. “We’re actually embarrassed with the number of people anxious to help.” Mr Todd said he asked his hospitality panel three weeks ago to arrange entertainment for the crew members, and there were sufficient offers within a few days. “Everyone has been extremely thoughtful,” he said. “It’s been a pleasure to handle the whole thing. We’re very sorry there aren't enough chaps to go around.”
The crew members, mainly in groups of twos and threes, will stay with about 30 families in Christchurch and in the country on Saturday and Sunday, some remaining ashore overnight. Their hosts are taking them on drives to the mountains, Akaroa and Hanmer, and to see farming in the province Deer stalking and jet boat trips have also been planned. Details of arrangements for the sailors were sent by radio to Bluff when the Britannia arrived.
